Todd Orlando and his Third Ward Defense remain first in the nation in rushing defense, sixth in total defense, and are now third in scoring defense. If the Coogs are to make another run at the American division and conference titles as well as another NY6 bowl game or even a possible playoff birth, the stingy Cougar defense will be one of the biggest reasons why.
Not to be outdone, the Houston offense is currently nineteenth in the nation in total offense and twelfth in scoring offense. Senior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. has added to his Heisman candidacy by throwing for a career-high 389 yards against UConn Thursday night. FoxSports analyst Bruce Feldman has Ward Jr third in his weekly Heisman rankings. The Coogs remain #6 in this week’s AP poll and are now 5th in the Coaches poll.
Up next: The Coogs travel to Annapolis to try to slow down the vaunted Midshipmen triple option attack. The Coogs won last year 52-31 to secure the AAC west division and a spot in the title game which the Coogs would win 24-13 over Temple. Look for another excellent game this Saturday.
