The 2015 college football season is still underway, yet with many high profile head coaching vacancies opening up rumors are starting to fly from all over the country. Houston head coach Tom Herman has been linked to many of the Power 5 openings and as the Coogs gain national prominence many rumors about possible replacements for Coach Herman will start to surface… even though Coach Herman still has a job.

California’s head coach Sonny Dykes is a Texas native so he’s now being linked to the potential opening at Houston should Herman leave after one year on Cullen Boulevard. Dykes was a top Mike Leach assistant at Texas Tech before helping pump life into the┬áLouisiana Tech and Cal programs, respectively. There’s also rumors that Dykes won’t be back at Cal next season, so it’s entirely possible his agent is leaking the Dykes-to-UH story to make his client look better than he currently is.

Fear not Coog fans: While I feel Herman will return for 2016 to coach up some of his incoming recruits (Ed Oliver anyone?), if he does decide to leave the University of Houston will have an excellent pool of replacements to choose from… Major Applewhite and Todd Orlando included. Even if Houston isn’t in a Power Five conference, it’s still much easier to win here than many other supposedly “big time” programs.
