A year after Andre Ware’s Heisman winning 1989 season, David Klingler took over at quarterback for the Cougars since Ware had been drafted to the Detroit Lions in the 1990 NFL Draft. Head Coach Jack Pardee had also left the Cougars to bring his “Run and Shoot” offense to the Houston Oilers.

The Cougars promoted offensive coordinator John Jenkins to take over the head coaching duties and with Klingler in at quarterback, the Coogs picked up right where they left off.

  1. Thanks for the memories. I went to UH during the Ware/Klingler days.

Might want to change “Ward” to “Ware” in that second line.

    EAT’EM UP COOGS

    1. My pleasure! And thanks for pointing out the typo… a Freudian slip perhaps that I’m thinking Greg Ward will be drafted in a few years. 🙂

  2. I was in attendance when the Coogs played Texas in Austin during the 1990 season. Coogs win that game they’d have won the national championship.
