Four new college football coaches with deep Texas ties

Four new college football coaches for the 2015 season all have deep Texas ties: Houston’s Tom Herman, SMU’s Chad Morris, Tulsa’s Phillip Montgomery, and Kansas’ David Beaty. ESPN has an excellent write-up about how each of these new coaches has extensive experience across the state before becoming head coaches.

Interesting fact: Before Montgomery was Tulsa’s head coach and Baylor’s offensive coordinator, he was the offensive coordinator of the Houston Cougars. He’s the latest in a line of recent former UH assistants to become head coaches: Dana Holgosoren at West Virginia and Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech also were UH offensive coordinators.
