Four star QB David Moore, whom we profiled yesterday, has given a verbal commitment to SMU. In the running story about Moore over at SB Nation many P5 schools may be coming at Moore hard and he may waver on his decision to join the Mustangs who were arguably the worst team in college football last year.
From the article:
“Boston College asked me where I committed, and I said SMU, and they said OK, we’re still coming, then,” Moore says, noting BC told him it planned to offer him regardless. “That’s going to be kind of awkward to get an offer like Boston College on the day I commit to SMU.”
Moore says Auburn, which has not offered him, messaged him when he sent out his revised timeline, asking, “What happened to May?” He says Auburn will still be by to see him this spring.
And a spot Moore had called one of his “dream schools,” Arizona State, is not backing off at all. Moore says ASU’s OC and receivers coach will be by Monday and that ASU plans another visit later in spring.
(Moore’s high school is a major talent producer, having sent 12 recruits to FBS schools in the last three classes, so many schools would be stopping by anyway.)
But one thing had been made clear: SMU doesn’t want soft commitments. What if he gets a dream offer?
“I’m going to talk to [the SMU coaches] about it,” Moore said about whether ASU or A&M eventually offer. “I’ll talk to them and say, ‘Hey, Arizona State was one of my dream schools, and it would be smart for me to do my due diligence; what do you think?’ I don’t know how they will respond.
“This is going to be really interesting.”
I’m all fine for recruits to commit early if they have their decision made, but if Moore breaks his verbal to the ‘Stangs that would be pretty crappy. Look, I hate SMU as much as any UH fan, but your word is your word. Time to be a man and stick by what you say.
As far as the Coogs go: UH is still pushing hard for Houston Westfield Quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole. Even though 247Sports.com is predicting he goes to A&M, Houston is listed as “warmer” so we could be very high on Sterling-Cole’s list.
[Edit: One of our awesome fans submitted this post to r/CFB where there’s an awesome discussion going on. As one commenter on this blog pointed out: David Moore is actually a three star QB not four. I apologize for this oversight. I frequently follow many high school recruits across many different websites (Rivals, Scout, Hudl, 247 Sports, etc.) and try to label each recruit on this blog by their highest ranking on all of the sites. I must’ve gotten Moore mixed with someone else. He is in fact a three star QB. Thanks to everyone in the community for the correction!]
